Below are the Policy and Technical aspects of our repeater system access.
POLICY:
The repeaters are Open Repeaters and we extend the offer to all licensed Radio Amateurs to make use of the repeater system features for the benefit of the Amateur community that we serve.
As the goal is a wide-coverage system that will at times likely be subject to a large volume of traffic. The policies implemented are to help maintain equitable access to the system. Priority on the system at all times will be given to Emergency traffic and N2CKH and the ssytem control operators.
We ask that you keep in mind that all users are welcomed guests and to please keep QSO lengths reasonable so that all may part take in the system resources and to ALWAYS give way to priority traffic. This is especially true should the system be in use by any OEM group such as ARES or RACES members and during any type of net operation.
Because of the repeater systems wide geographic coverage area locally and via IRLP, many Amateurs use the system as means of keeping in touch with other Amateurs across far distances. Next to Emergeny Communications, this is one of the primary objectives of the system. Many transient non-members use the system in this manner when traveling through the coverage area, or for keeping weekly skeds with friends out of their area. Non-members are welcome to use the system for this purpose. However, we ask that non-members avoid tying up the system for lengthy periods of time, especially if their QSO could instead be carried out on a simplex channel or on a local-coverage only repeater.
As always, Emergency traffic has priority above everything else.
TECHNICAL:
The N2CKH/R and AERIALS Inc. repeaters are being congfigured with what are known as community tone panels to support mulitpled PL as well as DPL/DCS acess.
All the repeater systems will only re-transmit that particular repeaters primary PL tone regardless of the input PL being used or DPL/DCS code 031.
This means that for full CTCSS operation you MUST program your radio for the primary PL tone or your radio must be capable of split PL/PL or DPL/PL operation.
For full DPL/DCS operation you MUST use DCS code 315. However, note that only stations NOT running CTCSS or stations that are also running DCS code 315 will hear your transmissions.
For special events and OEM operations tactical PL and DCS pairs or split combinations can be programmed for use and the systems bells and whisles can be disabled as well.
