JOMARLS as I like to call it, is my vision of an open, RF linked repeater system to link together a number of existing Ocean and Monmouth county area repeater systems to share the capabilities of all systems and provide access for what is being developed at the N2CKH/R hub.
JOMARLS is a concept, JOMARLS is not a club.
I see JOMARLS as a cooperative effort to bring Ocean and Monmouth county area ham radio repeater operators and clubs sponsoring repeaters together with the their distinctive skills, resources and knowledge base to help facilitate an organized effort to link their respective repeater systems together on demand via DTMF signaling.
The purpose of JOMARLS is to foster good amateur radio practice, develop new technical skills, repair and maintain repeater systems, explore new technologies and to take an active role in helping establish and maintain local, interstate, and international repeater communications networking capabilities using RF and IRLP in Central New Jersey.
JOMARLS will be an open system with an open door policy for linking into the system by other repeaters in the Ocean and Monmouth county area. The goal is to provide a system that will support normal day-to-day amateur communications taking advantage of the latest technology that will be available for use by those in ARES, RACES and other OEM operations for training purposes and for use when an emergency situation develops.
As we support the SAME system, it is our hope that the NJ State OEM officers will at some point coordinate with the National Weather Service and implement the SAME/EAS Civil Emergency Message (CEM) event code to alert all RACES/ARES members of the need to activate. The CEM code is currently being used for AMBER alerts, but in 2003 the new "Child Abduction Emergency (CAE)" that has been adopted will be pressed into service for that application.
The repeater systems in the JOMARLS mix will then be available for Emergency Communications, Public service events and general Amateur Radio use covering a wider area than just one repeater system possibly could.
The JOMARLS concept is self-supporting through the generous donations and cooperation of the areas ham radio operators, Amateur Radio clubs and non-Amateurs.
The repeater owners will maintain an "Open Repeater" policy. However some features and control of the link system will only be accessible on invitation or membership of the club sponsoring that particular repeaters point of access in a given geographic area.
The planned hub will be linkable via a UHF back bone that will utilize a full duplex linking repeater via a high gain omni directional antenna. The hub will operate full duplex, however all links to the hub will be half duplex using directional antenna and the minimum needed RF power for a full quieting signal.
It is planned to make all features, 911 Autopatch, EAS/SAME Weather Alerting, IRLP and other features available on the hub.
All interested parties are welcomed to link their repeater systems together under the JOMARLS concept and experiment with our open systems features and bring their specific capabilities to the mix. I welcome your input and support. Anyone interested in linking to the system please do not hesitate to make contact.
The 443 repeater system that is listed in the ARRL repeater directory as Deal, Monmouth county, which is actually located in Ocean Township has been sold by the Ocean-Monmouth ARC (OMARC) to AERIALS, Inc.
AERIALS was founded by N2CKH, K2DE, N2IHN, KE2SO, W2UG and N2YMO to maintain and enhance the 443 repeater system.
AERIALS is about Amateur Radio Experimentation, Repeaters, Internet and Linking.
