This years Armed Forces Day will feature use of MIL-STD-188-110A PSK serial tone modem transmissions, see "PART II. SECRETARY OF DEFENSE MESSAGE TEST VIA DIGITAL MODES"Click here for details in .PDF format on page

To practice receiving signals in this mode, tune to dial frequencies 17,443 USB at 1700Z and 2000Z or 13,506.5 USB at 2300Z on Monday, Wednesday, Friday or Sunday.

MARS tends to make use of 300 or 600bps for its broadcasts, parameters are always 8N1 and the mode is always ASYNC.

MARS-ALE and MS-DMT support as to MS110A for the 2015 Armed Forces Day crossband test will be provided by me via the HFlink forum between now and the event.

Both MARS-ALE and MS-DMT can be used for MIL-STD-188-110A FEC RATT in ASYNC for interoperability by HAMS during the Armed forces day crossband event.

In MARS-ALE the use of the MS110A modem for ASYNC is not tied to the requirement of a license file, however for all else that is the case, thus only those in MARS or otherwise qualifying for a license can make use of MARS-ALE for two-way ALE.

Although MARS-ALE v3.00 is currently under development, its MS110A ASYNC support has been thoroughly tested and works very well.

The latest MS-DMT has been released for nearly a year now and has been in daily use by MARS since that time and is well documented and a proven performer.

MS110A is demanding due to its 2400 baud symbol rate and complex waveforms. The use of either tool makes many requirements of the host PC and OS as well as the radio to bring about full MS110A performance close to that of a hardware modem coupled to a MIL grade HF radio that the Radio Amateur needs to make the effort to achieve in their configurations. The MS110A modem is a CPU hog being as all the DSP is implemented in software, floating point support is key and thus many compiler optimizations are used, to include SSE2 in the CPU, thus only Intel P4 class processors and newer supporting SSE2 will run the software unlike PC-ALE that will work on much older CPU's at this time still.

The latest software builds are recommended from this page as follows...
